Serious Injuries In Fiery Hoboken Car Crash, Police Say

A pair of people suffered serious injuries in a fiery car crash on Observer Highway in Hoboken, authorities said.

HOBOKEN, NJ — A pair of people suffered serious injuries in a fiery car crash on Observer Highway in Hoboken last weekend, authorities said.

According to the Hoboken Police Department, a car crash took place near 551 Observer Highway around 12:15 a.m. on Sunday.

When Hoboken police arrived at the flaming wreck, the Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Hoboken Fire Department were already on the scene giving medical aid to the driver and passenger.

According to police, the vehicle appeared to strike a building column prior to igniting.

The driver and passenger suffered serious injuries and were transported to Jersey City Medical Center, police said.

Eventually, based on information discovered on scene, police charged Charles Schmidt, 29, of Jersey City, with assault by auto and reckless driving.

The crash remains under investigation, with the possibility of additional charges, police stated Tuesday.
