Services Set For Hoboken Scholar Athlete Damon Murray

A meal train and fundraiser is ongoing for Damon Murray, shot to death in Hoboken this month, and services will be held this week.

HOBOKEN, NJ — Services will be held later this week for Damon Murray, 21, who was shot to death in the city's public housing projects a week ago Sunday.

Services will begin Friday at 4 p.m. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church on Washington Street, with repast at the Elks Lodge later in the evening.

The family requested that attendees wear red or white as a tribute to the Hoboken Red Wings, as Murray was a football and basketball star at Hoboken High School. He was to be a walk-on football player at Rutgers, but came home to help his family. He had been a paraprofessional in the Hoboken schools and had passed the firefighter's exam.
