Shooting Causes NJ Transit Suspension; Turnpike Exit Closed
A standoff between shooters and police impacted nearby NJ Transit light rail and bus service. An exit on the NJ Turnpike was also closed.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — A standoff between shooters and police in Hudson County on Tuesday complicated the afternoon commute for some NJ Transit light rail and bus passengers, as well as drivers on the New Jersey Turnpike near exit 14B, officials reported.
A police officer was shot and killed, and two more officers and a civilian were hit by gunfire in an hours-long active standoff in Jersey City, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.

Service on the Hudson Bergen Light Rail (HBLR) Bayonne Branch was temporarily suspended in both directions between Liberty State Park and 8th Street due to the police activity, NJ Transit reported at 2:04 p.m.

HBLR Bayonne Branch service resumed in both directions between Liberty State Park and West Side Avenue, with trains bypassing Dansforth Station, NJ Transit reported shortly before 4 p.m.
Shuttle bus service between Liberty State Park and West Side Avenue was also temporarily suspended, with limited service resuming between Liberty State Park and West Side Avenue shortly before 4 p.m. Shuttle buses will be bypassing MLK station., NJ Transit reported.

NJ Transit bus route No. 87 operated on a detour on Martin Luther King Drive in Jersey City, which was closed from Woodlawn to Claremont avenues. Buses will use MLK Drive, Woodlawn Avenue, Ocean Avenue and Bramhall Avenue, officials said.
