Short-Term Memory Loss Blamed For Shoplifting In Hoboken

"I forgot to pay," claimed the 64-year-old man when stopped by ShopRite staff in the parking lot.

A Jersey City man offered a unique explanation for an alleged shoplifting incident in Hoboken... he has short-term memory loss and forgot to pay.

The incident took place at the ShopRite on Madison Street on Tuesday afternoon, when the 64-year-old man was detained by the store’s loss prevention staff.

According to the staff member, the man loaded $69 worth of items into his cart and left the store without paying.

When stopped in the parking lot, the man told the loss prevention officer, “I have short term memory loss and forgot to pay.”

Police charged the man with shoplifting and released him on a summons.
