WATCH: Skunk Scampers Around Hoboken Waterfront

HOBOKEN, NJ — Hoboken residents occasionally spot unusual wildlife in Hoboken, from a coyote to deer, raccoons, and even a seal.

Some residents and experts have said that wildlife began appearing after the pandemic, while others argued that development has pushed animals out of their habitats.

Tuesday night, hours before the start of fall, a skunk was seen making its way around the north waterfront. It briefly went for a swim, headed toward the local supermarket and Hoboken Historical Museum, and was chased by dogs and some very protective geese. The video is below.

The Liberty Humane Society in Jersey City has said, "Skunks, raccoons, and opossums are all local wildlife that you will see out and about, any time of day. They and their babies get hungry, just like we do, so don't be alarmed and let them go about their business. And with skunks, try not to startle them and they will hopefully keep their distance and refrain from spraying."

Reason For Concern
