From Sondheim To Disney: See Hoboken Students Star In 'Into The Woods,' 'Descendants'

HOBOKEN, NJ — Hoboken students have been hard at work rehearsing for two musicals: Disney's "Descendants," and Stephen Sondheim's "Into the Woods."

"Descendants" is being performed by Hoboken Middle School this weekend, Friday, Nov. 3 through Sunday, Nov. 5.

"Descendants," the musical version of the popular Disney movie, has an interesting plot: The teenage children of Disney villains like Jafar and Cruella De Vil meet up at prep school with the children of Disney heroes. As Disney puts it, "They have a difficult choice to make: should they follow in their parents’ wicked footsteps or learn to be good?"

"Into the Woods," the Stephen Sondheim musical that ran on Broadway starting in 1987, will be performed by Hoboken High School the weekend of Nov. 17-19.

"Into the Woods" draws from several fairy tales, according to the website: "The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse."
