Stevens Cooperative School In Hoboken To Expand Its Pre-K, Middle School
Stevens Cooperative School in Hoboken will connect its 339 River St. campus with a former pilates studio at 335 River St. and add studios.
HOBOKEN, NJ — Stevens Cooperative School, an independent school founded in 1949 by members of the Stevens Institute of Technology community, has announced an expansion of its Hoboken campus in order to make room for its growing early childhood program and a new home for upper middle school students starting in the 2022-2023 academic year.
To expand the early childhood program, which includes PreK for 3- and 4-year-olds through kindergarten, Stevens recently signed an agreement to connect its space at 339 River St. with a former pilates studio at 335 River St. The new space will house art and movement studios, an additional classroom, and office space for staff.
Meanwhile, the school will undergo a full renovation of its building at 301 Bloomfield St. and
convert it into a new Upper Middle School Building for seventh and eighth grade students.

Overall, the expansion plans will allow Stevens to enroll two additional classes of PreK 3 and first
grade students for the 2022-2023 school year, which will increase the Hoboken campus student
body by 8 percent.

“We are extremely excited for the many benefits these changes will bring to Stevens Cooperative
School,” said Head of School Sergio Alati Ed.D. “We are excited to be able to increase access to
our innovative Early Childhood curriculum and hope that many of those newly enrolled students
will stay with us long enough to enjoy the new Upper Middle School Building.”
“These expansions to our Hoboken campus mark an exciting new chapter in the story of Stevens
Cooperative School,” said Ingrid Rasmussen, the chair of the Board of Trustees. “As we
approach our 75th anniversary in 2024, we are thrilled to continue investing in the growth of our
community and the best possible educational experience for our students.”
Stevens Cooperative School has campuses in both Hoboken and Jersey City.
Accredited by the National Association of Independent Schools and Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, it provides 430 students with "an educational experience that will serve them for a lifetime: the adventure of becoming their most authentic selves, engaging fully with their education, and seeing the world as full of limitless opportunity," according to a release.
