Stevens Institute Trustees Have New Chairperson: Stephen Boswell

The Board of Trustees of Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken has a new chairperson at the helm: Stephen Boswell.

HOBOKEN, NJ — The Board of Trustees of Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken officially has a new chairperson at the helm: Stephen Boswell.

Boswell will succeed Virginia Ruesterholz, who is stepping down as chairperson after a five-year term. Ruesterholz will continue her service and leadership to Stevens as a member of the Board of Trustees, Stevens Institute announced Monday.

“In his current roles as Vice Chair of the Board and Chair of the Facilities Committee, and as the former Chair of the Human Resources Committee and of the Nominating and Governance Committee, Dr. Boswell has provided strategic direction and principled governance to the Board and the University. Further, through his participation as a member of the Executive Committee and the Investment Committee, and through his loyal and generous support as an alumnus and donor, Dr. Boswell has had a significant impact on Stevens’ growth and success.

“Dr. Boswell is President and Chief Executive of Boswell Engineering, named by Engineering News Record as a Top 500 Engineering Firm and a Top 100 Construction Management Firm. The 94-year-old, family-owned and operated firm is a full-service engineering organization and among the largest and most diverse engineering organizations in the State of New Jersey. Under Dr. Boswell’s leadership, the firm has successfully completed billions of dollars worth of projects in the northeastern U.S., including projects for the Port Authority of NY & NJ, the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, the New York State Department of Transportation, and the New York State Thruway Authority.

“He also serves as a Trustee of Hackensack Meridian Health and a Director of the Hackensack University Medical Center Foundation, President of the Board of Trustees of the Buehler Challenger and Science Center, and a Co-Founder and lead independent Director of the NASDAQ-listed ConnectOne Bank.

“A licensed professional engineer in 28 states and a fellow of both the American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Council of Engineering Companies, Dr. Boswell received the Civil Engineer degree and a doctorate in environmental engineering from Stevens. He also earned a master’s degree in biological sciences from William Paterson University and a bachelor’s degree in biology from New York University.”

Stevens Institute President Nariman Farvardin also offered words of thanks to Ruesterholz:

“On behalf of the entire Stevens community, I also wish to offer my profound appreciation to Ms. Ruesterholz for her exceptional work as Chair of the Board of Trustees over the last five years. Stevens has benefited immensely from her guidance and tireless commitment to Stevens. Under her leadership, Stevens has advanced dramatically in every important metric of success, including the launch and exemplary progress of Stevens’ $150 million capital campaign; planning for major campus infrastructure enhancements, including our first new academic building in a decade; and, importantly, the lifting of the New Jersey Attorney General’s (NJAG) Consent Judgment, demonstrating the strong state of Stevens’ governance. Her continued involvement as a Trustee will have far-reaching impact for years to come. I am particularly grateful for her insight and counsel to me over these last five years.”
