Through Their Lens: Hoboken Museum To Hold Reception For 2 Exhibits Sunday

The Hoboken Museum will hold a reception Sunday to kick off two exhibits, including one about local photo clubs 100 years ago.

HOBOKEN, NJ — Delayed for a week due to the snowstorm, the Hoboken Historical Museum will hold a reception on Sunday afternoon to kick off two exhibits.

The exhibits are:

What They Saw: Hoboken’s Amateur Photography Clubs 1889-1934: In the late 19th century, "camera fiends" roamed the streets of Hoboken, lugging heavy equipment like tripods and glass negatives. They caught the city through its early changes. See the rare, enlarged prints made from glass negatives.

Reflected Lowlands: Wetlands on the Urban Edge, A Dutch perspective on Hudson County wetlands: The drawings and paintings by Hens Breet will be displayed from Sunday through March 8. The Museum says, "Hens Breet's work explores the subtle and often precarious intersections between nature and urban life in Hudson County. Growing up in the Netherlands, Hens was shaped by landscapes defined by water, lowlands, and the careful balance between human habitation and natural systems. Arriving in New Jersey, he found a resonance in the Meadowlands, the tidal wetlands, and marshes of Hudson County."

The free reception runs from 2-5 p.m. Sunday. Head to the museum at 1301 Hudson St. for the event. More information is here.
