HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — This coming Wednesday is the deadline to declare or change your political party if you want to receive a mail-in ballot to vote in the June 6 primary elections in New Jersey.

However, this only applies to those who want to receive a mail-in ballot. If you're already registered to vote, you can declare your party on Election Day when you vote in that party's primary.

In primary elections, voters who are affiliated with a particular party choose a candidate or candidates to run in the November general election, representing that party.

This year, there are a number of races in Hudson County to watch, including the race for county executive (who oversees the county budget, personnel, and facilities like parks), state senators, and assembly representatives.

County Executive Tom DeGise is retiring, and his chief of staff, Craig Guy, is running in the Democratic primary. He'll face off in the primary against Eleana Little, who's with Progressive Democrats of Hudson County.

Only five counties in New Jersey have an executive: Atlantic, Bergen, Essex, Hudson, and Mercer counties.

For County Commissioner (formerly freeholder) representing Hoboken and downtown Jersey City, incumbent Anthony Romano will face Ron Bautista for the Democratic nomination. Joseph Branco is running for the Republicans.
