HOBOKEN, NJ — A sudden afternoon snow squall blew through Hoboken and the rest of northern New Jersey on Wednesday afternoon, darkening highways and startling drivers and pedestrians.

The National Weather Service issued an emergency alert shortly after 3:15 p.m., warning motorists, "Sudden whiteouts, icy roads, slow down!" They issued a new alert an hour later, to extend until 5:30 p.m.

Despite the whiteout, the rest of the week is supposed to be clear with highs in the 30s and 40s.
