HOBOKEN, NJ — Who's got the best fresh mozzarella cheese in Hoboken?

"It's not a competition," says Pietro, the owner of Biancamano's Deli on Washington Street in Hoboken, with a smile.

But Pietro is being modest — his deli is one of several in Hoboken known for their fresh handmade mozzarella cheese. And each year, the town celebrates with a popular event, offering samples to ticketed guests.

"Hoboken Mutzfest is a uniquely Hoboken event that celebrates the city’s Italian heritage, amazing small businesses and the best mutz Hoboken has to offer — plus one special guest from Lyndhurst who made his name at Mutzfest," said organizers this year.

Hoboken Mutzfest is Sunday, April 28, 1-5 p.m. at the 14th St. Viaduct Park in Hoboken.

It will feature signature dishes from M&P Biancamano, Vito’s, Dolce & Solato, Lisa’s Deli, Tony Boloney’s and Vinnie’s Mootz.

Vinnie's is based in Lyndhurst NJ but was a back-to-back winner of the homemade mutz contest when that was
a featured part of the day, say organizers.

Tickets are $50 for General Admission and $100 for open beer garden VIP (dedicated food station plus the deli stations) .

"It’s a family friendly day that’s popular with people of all ages," said organizers. "While the event is a fun day and successful standalone event, it is also the fundraiser for the Hoboken Family Alliance."

Proceeds will benefit the Hoboken Bike Camp, which teaches individuals to ride a two-wheel bike and many other community programs by HFA.

Tickets were sold out by the weekend, but an in-person waitlist will form. Get more details here.
