Hoboken Experiences Minor Flooding Monday: City Responds
Water extended onto the sidewalk at some street corners in Hoboken after a night of rain. See photos.

HOBOKEN, NJ — Low-lying areas of Hoboken may flood when rains fall at .8 inches per hour, but the rains weren't heavy on Sunday night into Monday morning. So why did the water on some corners flood onto the sidewalk?
Several corners filled with high water after only a half-inch of rain was predicted overnight.

Flooding may occur at high tide in the mile-square city, but the high tides in Hoboken were expected around 12:05 a.m. on Monday, and then again at 12:53 p.m.

City spokeswoman Marilyn Baer said Monday that the observed areas of high water may have occurred due to a different issue.
"This could be the result of debris that has blocked the catch basins," she said Monday. "When this occurs and it is brought to the city's attention, the city flags it for NHSA to investigate and clear as needed."

The city had announced Sunday that the North Hudson Sewerage Authority was in the process of upgrading sewers near the north end of town. Read about that here.
Baer advised that residents can report clogged sewers and debris directly to NHSA online at https://www.nhudsonsa.com/report-sewer-problem by calling (866)689-3970 or by emailing nhsahotline_omi@jacobs.com.
