Widow of Slain Attorney Fights to Prevent Lawyers from Accessing Her Late Husband's Employment Records

A wife's lawsuit continues in the wake of the 2013 Short Hills mall carjacking murder of Hoboken lawyer and Toms River native.

The widow of murdered Hoboken attorney and Toms River native Dustin Friedland – who was fatally shot during a December 2013 carjacking at The Mall at Short Hills – is fighting a security company’s efforts to access her late husband’s employment records.

Following her husband’s murder, Jamie Schare Friedland filed a lawsuit against the mall’s owners, Michigan-based Taubman Centers, the mall’s security company, California-based Universal Protection Service, and the Millburn-Short Hills Volunteer First Aid Squad.

In the lawsuit, Friedland claimed that the mall’s owners knew about elevated carjacking risks during the time of the incident – which took place during the Christmas shopping season - but failed to adequately protect shoppers.
