Don't forget Wednesday  night's fundraiser for the Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance Corps at Willie McBride's, 616 Grand Street, starting at 5 p.m. Suggested admission is $10, which gets you drink specials and half-price appetizers. These guys are there when you really need them, so take time to give them a hand.

ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOBOKEN

Dunno if this is the image of the Big H the Zimmer administration is shooting for, but there is a new show set for off-Broadway that's set in Hoboken in the 1950s. The plot? Vinnie, an unassuming sandwich-maker, is in love with counter girl Angie. But Angie's got it bad for Rocco, the local hunk, whose sights are set on sexy dance teacher Celeste. When Rocco runs afoul of Celeste's husband Billy, the result is "a series of hilarious misunderstandings and madcap misadventure." "Once Upon a Time in New Jersey" won the Kleban Prize and a Richard Rodgers Award. The Prospect Theater Co.'s production debuts Oct. 2 at the Hudson Guild Theatre.

Yo La Tengo! Hannukah! Maxwells!

Making Hannukah plans? Maybe you should. Hoboken's own indie rock faves Yo La Tengo have set the dates for their 8 Days of Hannukah benefit concerts at Maxwells. The sked is Dec. 1-8, and all tickets are $30, going on sale today (Wednesday) at noon. Don't forget the trio is also known for their special guests who in years past have included The Kinks' Ray Davies, Ronnie Spector, and Talking Heads' David Byrne.

Congrats to Brian Dowling, owner and executive chef of Park & Sixth, on launching his latest comfort food emporium, on Grove Street in Jersey City. One difference—on Friday and Saturday nights, the specialty food store will be transformed into a restaurant with a limited menu.
