2 Hazlet Police Officers Named Fire Chiefs In 2021
Hazlet police announced the appointment of two patrol officers to the position of fire chief during a Jan. 1 ceremony.
HAZLET, NJ - The Hazlet Township Police Department announced on New Years Day the appointment of two patrol officers to the position of fire chiefs, according to a statement on social media.
Hazlet’s own Ptl. Edward Schmidt and Ptl. Patrick Wood were sworn in as chiefs of the West Keansburg Fire Company and the North Centerville Fire Company respectively.
Fire Chief Schmidt has been volunteering with the West Keansburg Fire Company for 12 years while Fire Chief Wood has dedicated over 18 years to volunteering with the North Centerville Fire Company.

Christopher Alcott retained his position as Hazlet Fire Company Fire Chief.
“Both men selflessly volunteer their off time even if their patrol shift just ended. We are humbled and honored to have these two fine gentlemen on our police force, proving their commitment of service to the residents of Hazlet both on duty and off,” the police department wrote.
