5 Goals For Bair in Holmdel Victory; Team Off to State Sectional Finals

Holmdel beats Bordentown 7-1 in Central Jersey Group 2 Sectional Semi-Finals.

Junior forward Gabby Bair had a hat trick in the first half, scoring 5 goals in all, to lead Holmdel to its first ever trip to the state sectional finals. Junior Hannah Lee and freshman Katherine Rebele each chipped in a goal to give Holmdel a resounding 7-1 win over Bordentown in Tuesday’s Central Jersey Group II state semi-final game.

The game was never in doubt for a moment. Holmdel came out clearly prepared to dominate and completely threw Bordentown off it’s game as Bair had 3 goals within the first 20 minutes. The second half of the dynamic scoring duo, Hannah Lee added another goal to give Holmdel a 4-0 lead at the half. Bair has been unstoppable in the playoffs and now has 25 goals and 10 assists on the season. Meanwhile, Hannah Lee has stacked up an impressive 14 goals and 13 assists so far this year.

Holmdel is all about teamwork as the assist record shows. Junior Rebecca Stanziale has 2 assists today, 6 on the season, freshman Abbey Flynn had 1 assist today, 7 total, and Kailey Flynn rounds out those numbers with 2 assists today and 9 on the season.

The Hornets continued their dominance in the second half as Bair added her 4th goal in the first 30 seconds, followed three minutes later with a goal by Kat Rebele. Bair went on to add her fifth goal, and the team’s 7th of the day with less than 5 minutes gone in the second half.

It looked easy for the #4 seeded Hornets today as they controlled every facet of this game giving #9 seeded Bordentown no chance to get any offense going until the last few minutes of the game. Bordentown had an impressive run in the state tournament knocking off #1 seed Rahway in the first round.

Holmdel advances to play on the road against #2 seeded Governor Livingston High School on 2 pm on Friday. The entire Holmdel community will be at Governor Livingston in spirit cheering the girls varsity team on in their run for the Central Jersey Group II sectional championship.
