Aldi Plans To Move Into Old Pathmark In Hazlet
It's likely a strategic move by Aldi, as rival European discount supermarket chain Lidl plans to open at the site of the old Red Oak diner.

HAZLET, NJ — Aldi is planning on moving across Rt. 35 into the Kmart Plaza, Deputy Hazlet Mayor Sue Kiley confirmed to Patch Wednesday.
Right now, Aldi is located on Rt. 35 northbound at Poole Avenue. They are planning to relocate to a much larger space inside the long-closed Pathmark in the Kmart Plaza. The Kmart is closed in that shopping center as well. It's still unknown what business will move into the Kmart. The Kmart Plaza is owned by developer Onyx Equities.
"The only way the Township knew about this was because Aldi had to apply for permits for new loading docks at the Pathmark," said Kiley. She said she usually shops at the ShopRite, but popped into Aldi once and "the prices are really fantastic," she said.

"I think Aldi wants to be on the southbound side of Rt. 35 before the light at Poole, as Lidl will be located on the northbound side of 35 after the light," said Kiley.
