All-Day Police Enforcement Detail Set For Route 34: See When

HOLMDEL, NJ — An all-day police enforcement detail is set to take place on Route 34 on Saturday, Holmdel Police said.

This patrol is part of the Statewide Goal: Zero High Visibility campaign and will be dedicated to the memory of Patti Barrett, who was struck and killed while walking south on the shoulder of Fairmount Avenue in Chatham Borough, where no sidewalks were present.

"The vehicle that struck her had window tinting on the front windshield, as well as the front and rear driver-side and passenger-side windows," police said.

"This campaign honors her memory by focusing on pedestrian safety, visibility, and violations that contribute to serious and fatal crashes."

The intent of this high-visibility campaign is to confront the rise in traffic deaths NJ has seen in recent years.

"Traffic Safety culture and driving behaviors need to change in order to keep people alive on NJ roadways," police said. "Law enforcement agencies are dedicated to lowering these numbers and keeping our roads safe."
