HOLMDEL, NJ — Several road closures will be in effect on Sunday when the Billy DiMaio 5K Run & Walk takes place in Holmdel.
To ensure the safety of participants, township officials said these road closures will be in effect starting at 9:30 a.m. and will continue for the duration of the event.
The following streets will be closed to all vehicle traffic:
“Please plan your travel accordingly and use alternate routes during the morning hours,” township officials said in an online post. “We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we host this community event.”
Set to begin at 10 a.m. on Sunday, the race will be held in honor of Billy DiMaio, a Holmdel resident who was identified as one of the 14 people killed when a man drove a pickup truck into a crowd of New Year’s Day revelers on Bourbon Street in January 2025.
Following the terror attack, the Billy DiMaio Foundation was created in his memory, and today works to support individuals, families and communities across the U.S. impacted by mass violence by helping provide care, resources and hope in the aftermath of tragedy.
Proceeds from the first annual Billy DiMaio 5K Run & Walk will go towards supporting the foundation.
"Billy was the very best of Holmdel, kind, driven, and deeply connected to this community," Mayor Rocco Impreveduto said.
"By gathering on the boulevard that bears his name, we aren't just running a race, we are ensuring that Billy’s spirit continues to protect and provide for families facing unthinkable circumstances,” he continued. “We invite everyone to join us in making this inaugural event a powerful success."
