Mosquito Control Treatment Planned In Hazlet & Holmdel: See Where

HAZLET, NJ — The Monmouth County Office of Mosquito Control has detected West Nile virus activity in Hazlet and Holmdel, township officials recently announced.

As a precautionary measure, truck-mounted mosquito control operations are scheduled to take place in select neighborhoods on Tuesday between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m.

These operations will take place in residential areas bounded by:

• North: Residential areas along and north of Hawthorne Ave., Bayberry Dr., and Plum Ln.
• West: Along and west of Laurel Ave. (including Agostina Dr., Weller Pl., Raymond Ct., and Russel Pl.)
• South: Areas south of Lillian Dr., Raritan High School, and streets along Middle Rd. (CR 516)
• East: Areas east of Union Ave.

The product used for these operations is Duet, which will be applied via Ultra Low Volume (ULV) sprayers mounted on pickup trucks.

The application will take place during the early morning hours to target peak mosquito activity while minimizing public exposure, officials said.

While ULV applications use extremely small amounts of product and pose low risk to human health and pets, Hazlet Township officials advise that residents in the spray zones may choose to take these extra precautions:

• Keep windows and doors closed during the application hours.
• Bring outdoor pets, pet food, and water bowls indoors overnight.
• Turn off window air conditioners or set them to recirculate indoor air during spraying hours.
• Cover fish ponds or outdoor birdbaths if possible.
• To help reduce mosquito breeding on your property, dump standing water from gutters, flower pots, birdbaths, and yard toys weekly.
