KEANSBURG, NJ — A Keansburg man has been arrested and charged in connection with a crash that left a baby and adults hospitalized, Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel said.
Darryl Petlock, 48, has been charged with two counts of second-degree eluding, five counts of second-degree aggravated assault while eluding, and three counts of fourth-degree assault by auto, Daniel said.
Petlock was arrested and charged following a crash that took place on Monday afternoon.
At 2:45 p.m. on Monday, Linden Police were notified of a Jeep Grand Cherokee speeding on East Linden Avenue.
Officers then responded to the area and saw the Jeep driving at a high rate of speed into oncoming traffic in an attempt to drive around a pickup truck, Daniel said.
This ultimately led to a head-on collision with a Honda Civic containing three passengers, a 33-year-old woman, a 29-year-old man, and a 3-month-old baby.
The passengers of the Honda Civic were brought to a local area hospital with critical injuries, Daniel said.
The driver of the Jeep, Petlock, was taken into custody and also brought to a local area hospital.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation, Daniel said.
The NJ Attorney General's Office is also investigating the incident.
