KEYPORT, NJ — A man experiencing a medical episode was safely brought back to shore Thursday evening after a Good Samaritan helped first responders rescue him from the Raritan Bay.
Just after 5 p.m. on Thursday, the Keyport Fire Department was dispatched to the bay for a report of a man holding himself above water.
Once Squad Co. 22 arrived on scene, they found the man about 40 yards from the end of the boat ramp launch dock, holding onto a piling, head above water.
Once first responders arrived at the scene, a Good Samaritan brought her vessel to the dock for Keyport Police and members of the Keyport Fire Department to board and take out to the man.
The man was exhausted and experiencing a medical episode, according to authorities.
After Keyport Firefighter & Rescue Swimmer Susser entered the water, they were able to bring the man onto the vessel and transport him back to shore.
From there, the man was turned over to emergency medical services for medical care and transport.
Authorities did not release the names of the man or Good Samaritan.
"We would like to thank the Keyport Police, First Aid Squad and Monmouth County Communications for their assistance," the Keyport Fire Department said in a statement.
