Baby Born At Hazlet Police Station

Two police officers helped deliver a baby girl in the parking lot of Hazlet police headquarters on Middle Road Wednesday afternoon.

HAZLET, NJ — Yes, this really happened yesterday, Hazlet police confirmed: A woman gave birth in the parking lot of Hazlet police headquarters Wednesday afternoon. She wasn't going to make it to a nearby hospital in time and two Hazlet police officers helped with the delivery.

The baby girl was born at 4:19 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6 at Hazlet police headquarters on Middle Road. Hazlet police announced the delivery on Facebook Wednesday night:

"Just when we thought we've seen it all, a frantic husband pulled in front of our police station doors this afternoon asking for help. His wife was in the backseat of their car having a baby. Sgt. Kevin Geoghan and Ptl. Pat Kiley ran out to assist along with other officers. Sgt. Geoghan gloved up and jumped in there."

"He took control and helped welcome 'Baby girl' Schimicci into the world at 4:19 p.m. Mom and Baby Girl appeared to be in good health and have been transported to the hospital by the Hazlet Township First Aid Squad. Congratulations to these Hazlet residents!"
