Bedbug Found in Keansburg School
Roscoe the bedbug dog has been brought into the Joseph Caruso elementary school.

KEANSBURG, NJ - John Niesz, the superintendent of the Keansburg school district, sent a letter home to parents over the weekend, informing them that a bedbug was found in the Joseph C. Caruso elementary school.
The lone bedbug was found last Thursday, Feb. 2 in one particular classroom, he said. The district hired an exterminator to treat that classroom and "Roscoe the Bed Bug Dog" was brought in to sniff out all of Caruso school and the entire district for bedbugs, Neisz said. He did not find any further signs of bedbugs, the superintendent said.
"I believe in a full-court press against anything that can cause harm, alarm and inconvenience to our students and staff," said Neisz.

The Keansburg school district is one of 31 school districts in New Jersey that used to be referred to as Abbott districts, meaning they are located in poor communities and are given very high amounts of state funding for PreK-12 education. They are now called "SDA Districts," meaning the NJ Schools Development Authority must cover all costs of new school building and renovation projects.
