Bicycle More Safely This Summer In Holmdel
Young people ages 5 and up can still register for a free bicycle safety session on Friday at the Bell Works Red Lot.
HOLMDEL, N.J.— Summertime means more time for bicycling. And Holmdel is offering a Safe Bike Skills & Safety Ride event Friday morning to encourage young people to ride with some rules.
The police department and the Traffic and Bike Safety Committee are hosting the event that is open to young people ages 5 and up. the EZ Ride Bike & Safety Team is providing the instruction.
There are still some spots available to register for through Thursday at midnight, the Recreation Department said.

The event is Friday, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Bell Works Red Lot. And it gives young people a chance to ride and learn in a protected area. The overall time for training and riding is from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The event is free. The training will be split into two age groups.

Participants will learn proper helmet fitting, bike safety and handling tips and safe stopping and signaling, among other skills. Participants will also have a pre-ride safety check.
Participants should bring a helmet and fully inflated bicycle. If a child does not have a helmet, it should be noted on the registration/waiver form and one will be provided.
It's best for participants to wear bright clothes, sneakers, sunblock and have a water bottle.
No training-wheel vehicles will be part of the class.
There will be a community ride after the event and participants can join if they show mastery of the bicycle. They should be accompanied by a parent or guardian for both the training and the ride.
