In September 2001, an American family traveled to Ireland to celebrate their mother’s 60th birthday and search for the County Cavan cottage where their grandmother was born.

The next day, the world changed.

Stranded in Ireland in the aftermath of September 11th, their search for family roots becomes something none of them could have imagined.

Through live music, storytelling, humor and memory, Beautiful Estrangement tells a true story of an American family caught far from home during one of the defining moments in American history—and the extraordinary Irish hospitality and human connection they found along the way.
