The Cancer Support Community at Monmouth Medical Center Hosts Workshop on Breast Reconstruction, September 28

Workshop will feature a discussion with two Monmouth Medical Center Physicians

Breast reconstruction can help women who have undergone a mastectomy to complete their healing process by restoring physical and emotional balance. However, according to a survey published in JAMA Surgery in 2014, most women who undergo a mastectomy for breast cancer do not opt for breast reconstruction.

To help educate women who have received a breast cancer diagnosis and are considering breast reconstruction, the Cancer Support Community at Monmouth Medical Center and Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus will host Frankly Speaking about Cancer - Breast Reconstruction on Wednesday, September 28 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Eatontown Hotel.

This free, informational workshop, funded by a grant from the Plastic Surgery Foundation, will feature a discussion with Monmouth Medical Center physicians Negin Griffith, MD, a board-certified plastic surgeon, and Manpreet Kohli, MD, a board-certified and fellowship-trained breast surgeon with the Jacqueline M. Wilentz Breast Centers. Drs. Griffith and Kohli will discuss a number of topics related to breast reconstruction including: reconstruction and non-reconstruction options; how to make a decision on surgery; medical factors that may influence a decision; and how to prepare for and what to expect after surgery.
