Car Burglaries Thwarted, But Bold Attempts Continue: Police

A BMW X4 was spotted again Wednesday evening attempting car burglaries, but locked cars prevented any thefts, police say

HOLMDEL, NJ — More disturbing car burglary attempts were reported Wednesday night, this time in the area of Hayfield Court and Rambling Brook Drive, police said.

This time, the attempts were made Wednesday evening at about 6:30 p.m. But all the attempts were unsuccessful because the cars were locked, police said in a Facebook post.

But police noted that "there have been several incidents around New Jersey where these suspects are being frustrated by vehicles being locked and are attempting to see if they can get access to the keys by entering the home."

They stressed the need to not only lock car doors, but lock the garage doors and home entry doors - and take the key fob inside with you.

In this latest incident, the "suspect" car was described as a BMW X4, which they said was the same vehicle that made the attempts the night before, police said.

Earlier, officers located that same vehicle on Highway 34 traveling over 100 mph before leaving town. It was then located again by our officers near Route 520 where it was operating at 115 mph. Both times officers attempted to stop the car but it continued to flee, police said.

Police commended residents: "Residents have been diligent in reporting suspicious vehicles in their neighborhoods and we urge all residents to continue to do that," the police said in the post.
