Car Parked At Holmdel School Was Stolen, Police Say

After a check of the Village School earlier this month, police discovered a car reported stolen parked there; Belleville man faces charges.

HOLMDEL, N.J.— A police investigation earlier this month discovered a car left at the Village School parking lot, police said, and the discovery has led to the arrest of a Bellville man in connection with the incident.

Police said that "at no time did the suspect approach the Village School, nor were there any children present at the time of the offense."

On a routine check of the school on June 4, police saw a car parked in the parking lot, police said in a Facebook post on June 11. The car was unoccupied and parked in a handicap parking space, with its tires partially up on the curb, police said.

A check of the car's registration revealed that the vehicle was reported stolen in Atlantic City, police said. According to the post, "proceeds from vehicle burglaries from other jurisdictions were strewn about the interior of the car."

After an investigation, officers identified the person in possession of the car as Scott C. Horst of Belleville, police said. They said he was charged with receiving stolen property and other motor vehicle violations.

He was in the Essex County Correctional Facility where he was processed on the charges, police said.
