Celebrate Decoration Day At Longstreet Farm In Holmdel
Visitors can experience the memorial customs and agricultural life of the post-Civil War era at this nine-acre historic farm.
HOLMDEL, N.J.— Before it was Memorial Day, Americans celebrated Decoration Day. And Historic Longstreet Farm in Holmdel will honor this early American holiday with a program from noon to 3 p.m. on Monday, May 30.
This family holiday originated soon after the Civil War when women decided to decorate the graves of fallen soldiers. It was a day for family reunions and remembrance. And visitors to the farm, part of the Monmouth County Park System, can experience what Decoration Day was like.
