Colonial Thanksgiving Worship, Sunday, Nov. 22 at 1pm The Holmdel Community UCC will present an historic re-enactment of a worship service that could have occurred 300 years ago. The Holmdel church dates to 1705, and stems from original Baptist settlers in the area, who organized a church in 1668. A member of this early community was Penelope Stout, wife of Richard Stout. Penelope has an astounding story of survival and courage, and was one of the great heroines of Monmouth County. Hear how she was shipwrecked on Sandy Hook in 1640, scalped and left for dead, saved by Leni Lenape Indians, and how she went on to live a long and fruitful life in Middletown, NJ, with a large family of seven sons and three daughters. By some accounts, when she died at age 110, she had 502 descendents! Penelope will be present at the worship service and will be offering her amazing story as part of this re-enactment. All are welcome!
