Dog Swims 1.5 Miles Into Raritan Bay, Rescued By Marine Team

UNION BEACH, NJ - A dog who swam over a mile into Raritan Bay off the coast of Union Beach was reunited with his owner over the weekend after a rescue operation executed by the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office.

Caiden, a 10-year-old Siberian Husky, was located by sheriff’s officers and the department’s Marine 1 unit, according to a statement. The crew brought the dog on board, navigating shallow waters to reunite him with his owner.

“#SheriffGolden commends this great team for a job well done,” the department wrote on social media.

The sheriff’s office had a busy July 4 weekend, as, in addition to the K-9 rescue, the Marine 1 Unit also assisted in navigating fire personnel to a brush fire that started due to fireworks.
