Entry Plan Announced By New Holmdel School Superintendent

Dr. J. Scott Cascone, the new Holmdel Township School Superintendent, hopes for a smooth leadership transition.

HOLMDEL, NJ — The Holmdel Board of Education appointed Dr. J. Scott Cascone as the new superintendent of schools last month. Cascone recently discussed his 90-day entry strategy, according to a report on the district's website.

The plan comprises five separate research based components:

  • Instruction & Program
    • Attending informal meetings with the Board of Education and district administration to learn about current and upcoming initiatives is one of the primary goals. Cascone suggested analyzing student performance data by school and grade level to identify areas for academic improvement and soliciting monthly curriculum updates.
  • Finance
    • Cascone intends to hold regular meetings with the Business Administrator and Finance Committee to stay up to date on the development of the 2022-23 budget, as well as to collaborate in the development, submission, and presentation of the final 2022-23 budget and accompanying presentation.
  • Operations
    • Cascone intends to conduct facility visits and to convene a school safety panel, which will review the school's emergency response plans with local law enforcement.
  • Governance
    • Cascone hopes to collaborate with the Board of Education to build mutual understanding and a positive rapport for open lines of communication.
  • Personnel
    • The plan is to assess current job openings, review the status of processes, and ensure that positions are filled as soon as possible. Cascone also intends to meet with and assess the district's human resources team.

The entry plan allows for stakeholder engagement, understanding the district's unique strengths, ensuring a smooth leadership transition, and keeping the district focused on forward progress, Cascone said.
