Fake Utility Workers Trying to Get into Hazlet Homes

People pretending to be with New Jersey Natural Gas Co. to get into Hazlet homes, police say.

Hazlet, NJ - There have been reports of people pretending to be utility workers with New Jersey Natural Gas Co. trying to get into peoples’ homes in Hazlet township, police report.

New Jersey Natural Gas Co. sent out the advisory, which said people have been imposing as their employees to gain access inside peoples’ homes. Here are some tips:

  • Most utility companies won’t send workers to your house unannounced. They will usually make an appointment.
  • Utility workers will always have proper identification. Look for the company’s logo on the badge.
  • Most utility workers can check for proper service outside of the home.
  • Call the utility company to confirm worker’s identity.
  • Call the police immediately if you suspect something suspicious.
