HAZLET, NJ - While students at Hazlet Middle School and Raritan High School were set to return to four in-person class days per week on Feb. 4 the Hazlet school district has since postponed the transition to Feb. 16, district officials announced on Wednesday.

In a Jan. 27 video update, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Scott Ridley cited the continued uptick in COVID-19 cases across district, county and state, alongside the lack of available vaccines for staff, as reasons for the schedule change.

“This extended time will hopefully see a cresting of positive cases and the arrival of additional vaccines to the general public, especially our teachers and staff,” Ridley asaid.

The superintendent added that both Hazlet Middle School and Raritan High School will still be in the third marking period on Feb. 3 with a revised A/B rotation, in which virtual Wednesday will now be a virtual A day or virtual B day.

“In the interest of health and safety, the return to a four-day school week at both RHS and HMS will commence on Tuesday, Feb. 16. Here’s hoping that the light at the end of the tunnel continues to grow brighter,” Ridley concluded.
