Freehold Borough To Unveil School Reopening Plans Next Month

August will see the release of Freehold Borough School District's reopening strategy, according to superintendent Dr. Rocco Tomazic.

FREEHOLD, NJ – The Freehold Borough School District, which serves grades K-8, is slated to release a final plan for district reopening next month. August will see the competition and publication of the Freehold Borough Reentry Plan, according to a July 8 letter signed by superintendent Dr. Rocco Tomazic. The plan will be ready for public review and should be released no later than Aug. 7.

District schools shut down in mid-March amid the coronavirus pandemic. For the rest of the 2019-20 school year, students received remote learning instruction at home. As districts were only sent reopening guidelines from the Murphy administration last month, Freehold Borough has been working promptly to plan appropriate protocol and strategies for a safe return to schools.

“The district Reentry Committee is developing the plans to resume some form of in-school instruction starting September 8 per guidance from the NJ Department of Education,” wrote Tomazic. “There are many options and variables. We are at a point where we need to have input from our parents, students and community members.”

The district has released a survey to parents to gather community input. The deadline to submit a survey response is Monday, July 20. The English survey can be found here and the Spanish survey can be accessed here.

According to My Central Jersey, current survey data shows that a majority of parents are in favor of having students attend on staggering days in groups, with one half of the student body receiving in-person instruction and the other half participating in online learning on alternating days.
