GNC Storefront Closes In Hazlet’s Bayshore Plaza

HAZLET, NJ - Health and wellness brand GNC has closed 40 stores throughout the Garden State following a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing completed in June.

Shuttered Monmouth County locations include a Bayshore Plaza site in Hazlet as well as a Brooks Edge Plaza storefront in Marlboro (see below for a complete list of store closings).

The Pennsylvania-based brand is known for its array of wellness supplements.

In June, the company announced plans to close up to 1,200 stores nationwide following its bankruptcy filing. Last year, the brand pivoted its focus on closing shopping center locations.

All of the company’s assets were acquired by Harbin Pharmaceutical Group in October, a brand spokesperson told Patch.

“GNC will continue to advance its … brand strategies, positioning the company to provide innovative wellness solutions to customers, wherever they are, for the long term,” the company wrote in a news release.

“The Chapter 11 Plan process and Harbin sale transaction provide GNC with the platform, capital structure, and opportunity to expand internationally and capitalize on the strong GNC brand in new markets around the globe.”
