Holmdel Commons Modell's To Close In 9-11 Weeks

HOLMDEL, NJ — Modell's Sporting Goods announced this week that it will close all of its stores nationwide after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Wednesday.

Modell's will close all of its 25 locations in New Jersey, including the Modell's at Holmdel Commons.

A store employee at the Holmdel location said no exact closing date was given, but that the store will shut down in nine to eleven weeks.

The chain was expected to start hosting liquidation sales both in the store and online, as of Friday.

"Over the past year, we evaluated several options to restructure our business to allow us to maintain our current operations," said Modell's Chief Executive Officer, Mitchell Modell, in Business Wire. "While we achieved some success, in partnership with our landlords and vendors, it was not enough to avoid a bankruptcy filing amid an extremely challenging environment for retailers."
