HOLMDEL, NJ — The Holmdel First Aid Squad has taken a step toward enhancing its emergency medical care for the town's youngest residents with the acquisition of new pediatric patient transport equipment for each of its ambulances.

The squad has obtained specialized Stryker pediatric restraint systems designed to help emergency medical personnel safely secure and transport children who require medical attention.

By equipping each ambulance with these devices, the township aims to ensure that its EMS crews have the appropriate equipment
readily available when responding to emergencies involving pediatric patients.

With the acquisition and deployment of this equipment, the Holmdel First Aid Squad is the first agency in Monmouth County to equip each of its ambulances with such devices.

“An emergency involving a child is one of the most difficult situations any family can face, and we want our First Aid Squad to have the equipment and resources necessary to provide the safest care possible,” Mayor Rocco Impreveduto said.

“This investment means that when a child in Holmdel needs to be transported to the hospital, our EMS professionals have equipment specifically designed to help keep that child secure during transport,” he continued. “We are incredibly proud of our First Aid Squad for continuing to raise the standard of care for our community.”

In addition to supporting Holmdel's youngest residents, the new equipment will also help advance the squad’s efforts to obtain New Jersey’s “Always Ready for Children” designation, a statewide initiative focused on improving the readiness of emergency departments and EMS agencies to care for pediatric patients.

The designation recognizes agencies that demonstrate a commitment to pediatric emergency preparedness, including appropriate equipment, training, policies and procedures designed specifically around the needs of children.

“Children are not simply smaller adults, and pediatric emergencies require specialized equipment, training, and preparation,” Holmdel First Aid Squad Chief Christopher Trischitta said.

“Having this equipment on every ambulance means our crews will be better prepared whenever we are called upon to care for a child,” he continued. “It is another important step toward ensuring that Holmdel is always ready to help children get the care they need.”

The Holmdel First Aid Squad continues to work toward meeting the requirements of the Always Ready for Children program as part of its ongoing commitment to providing high-quality emergency medical services to residents of all ages, officials said.
