Holmdel Home Catches Fire Sunday Morning

The fire started at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 26, inside a cracked fireplace chimney at a home on Cobblestone Court.

HOLMDEL, NJ — A private home on Cobblestone Court in Holmdel caught fire early Sunday morning, Nov. 26. The fire started at 2 a.m. Sunday, inside a fireplace, but the entire family was able to get out of the home safely.

It appeared the fire started inside a cracked fireplace chimney and spread into the interior wall of the home. The homeowners first noticed their bathroom wall was on fire.

Holmdel police were called to the home at 2:23 a.m. Sunday. Ptl. Chris Broglia arrived on scene, followed by Sgt. Thomas Foley and Ptl. Dave D’Arcy. The officers found the homeowner and his family had evacuated the home and reported that a wall in their bathroom was on fire. Police went inside and found smoke throughout the first floor and heavier smoke coming from the bathroom.

With assistance from the Hazlet, Matawan, and Union Beach fire departments, the volunteer Holmdel fire department was able to quickly contain the fire and put it out.

One Holmdel firefighter was treated at the scene by the Holmdel EMS for elevated blood pressure.
