Stolen Car Crashes On Rt. 35 After Holmdel Police Chase

It began at 4 a.m. Tuesday when Holmdel police saw four men wearing ski masks inside an Audi reported stolen in the area of Oakcrest Court.

HOLMDEL, NJ — A stolen car crashed into another vehicle Tuesday morning during a police chase through Holmdel and Hazlet, police said. The driver of the second vehicle was injured, and two of the four people in the stolen car were in custody, according to police.

The incident started at 4 a.m. when a Holmdel police officer on patrol near Oakcrest Court and Ridge Hill Way saw a white Audi carrying four men wearing ski masks. The car turned out to have been reported stolen in Montville, police said.

Officers tried to stop the car, but it fled, and police chased it through various Holmdel neighborhoods headed toward Route 35 and Hazlet.

The Audi eventually collided with another car at Bethany Road and Route 35 in Hazlet, police said.

The men inside the car fled, but two were arrested after a pursuit on foot by Holmdel police officers Michael Sasso and Frank Sigismondi, police said. The two suspects were identified as 17-year-old men from Newark.

The two other suspects remained at large and are described as tall, thin black males. One was wearing a dark jacket, black pants and black and white sneakers, police said, and the other was wearing a dark jacket with a light-colored hood and light pants.

The driver of the second vehicle suffered minor injuries and was treated at Bayshore Medical Center and released, police said.

Officers from Middletown and Hazlet assisted.
