One-Vote Difference In Holmdel School Board Race

Elizabeth Urbanski and Joseph Hammer are the projected winners, but Michael Sockol and Lori Ammirati are just one vote apart.

HOLMDEL, NJ — Elizabeth Urbanski and Joseph Hammer were elected to the Holmdel Board of Education Tuesday night. However, the race among the other two top highest vote getters remains too close to call, with current Board members Michael Sockol and Lori Ammirati apart by just one vote.

By 11:40 p.m. Tuesday, with all the districts reporting: (Vote for three three-year terms)

Elizabeth A. URBANSKI 1,676 votes

Joseph HAMMER 1,658 votes

Michael SOCKOL 1,630 votes

John MARTINEZ 695 votes

They will remain unofficial until certified by the county clerk. Mail-in ballots will be counted Wednesday.

The candidates running for Holmdel school board are:

  • Michael Sockol: Currently on the board, seeking re-election.
  • Elizabeth Urbanski: Never elected to the board before
  • Joe Hammer: Joe is not currently on the board, but previously served two three-year terms (from 2013-2018) on the Holmdel school board and was president for two years of those terms.
  • Jaimie Hynes: Never elected to the board before
  • Lori Ammirati is currently on the board and seeking re-election.
  • John Martinez Ran in the past for the board, seeking election
