Holmdel Schools Ending COVID Protocols This Week

Acting Superintendent Art Howard shared updated COVID-19 information with residents.

HOLMDEL, NJ — In a letter to residents, Acting Superintendent Art Howard announced that schools would resume normal operations this week, beginning Monday, March 21.

Beginning on March 21, temperature checks will no longer be required for all students and staff, along with the removal of all plexiglass shields from cafeteria tables.

All parents and guardians will have the option of allowing their child to continue using the plastic shield during lunch if they so desire.

Positive cases will no longer be traced by school nurses. As a result, in-school close contacts will not be identified, and no quarantines will be imposed.

Close household contacts and individuals who test positive for COVID-19 will, however, be required to follow the current quarantine guidelines, which include mask wearing for an additional 5 days after the quarantine period.

“As always, our administration will continue to monitor our county and district data to ensure that changes in our protocols do not adversely affect our staff and student population,” Howard said.

This change will also welcome the new Superintendent, Dr. Scott Cascone, on his first day in the position.

“Today, we begin a new chapter in the history of the Holmdel School District as we welcome our new Superintendent, Dr. Scott Cascone,” said Elizabeth Urbanski, President of the Holmdel Board of Education.

Cascone previously served as Superintendent of West Orange Public Schools, as Executive Director of Academics for Old Bridge Township Public Schools, and as a high school principal at Westwood Regional.

“Over the last 2½ months Dr. Cascone began to lay the groundwork for a successful tenure, as he’s already been meeting and building relationships with members of our administration, staff, parents, and students,” Urbanski said.
