LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Improve School Security, Professional Development In Hazlet

From Will Kolibas Jr., who is running for re-election Tuesday to the Hazlet Board of Education.

Please allow me to introduce myself. I am Will Kolibas Jr. and I am running for reelection this November 4th for the Hazlet Board of Education.

I believe that community service and involvement is important and that our children’s education is the most important thing we can and should be involved with.

Over the past 6 years, I am proud of the record I have in leading our schools. Along with my fellow board members, both current and past, we have implemented improvements like block scheduling, subject-specific classes, full-day kindergarten.

We have installed a wide range of technology improvements (smart boards, iPads and computer upgrades) in our classrooms. In addition, we have entered into numerous cost-saving shared service agreements with local communities. These agreements have allowed us the opportunity to hold the line on large tax increases.

My wife Brooke and I have two school age children who both attend Hazlet Schools. We are long-time Hazlet residents. After serving on the local rent control board for a number of years, I wanted to get more involved and use my 20 plus years of experience in school facilities management to continue to provide our children with buildings that are conducive to a safe and educationally sound learning environment.

I would like to ask for the opportunity to continue to serve my fellow residents and taxpayers for the next 3 years. I promise that I will continue to be accessible. During the past 6 years, I am proud to say that I have only missed 3 meetings.

Being a Board member is a role that I take very seriously. While it is not a full-time job, it is a full-time commitment.

While we have accomplished so much in the past 6 years, there is still work that needs to be accomplished. We need to continue to improve our school security. I would like to see a more secure front entrance at the high school. We also need to continue to build on our professional development academy for our teachers and staff, thus allowing teachers to provide our children with better and newer teaching concepts. I will also work to bring more programs like AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) which provides our students with College Prep skills for those who were not necessarily planning for college.

I would like to ask that on Election Day November 4th you please consider casting a vote for #3 William Kolibas Jr.

Thank you

William Kolibas Jr.
