Man Killed In Holmdel On Garden State Parkway
A Belmar man was struck and killed by a car that entered the right shoulder of the parkway, police said.
HOLMDEL, NJ - A Belmar man standing outside a car stopped on the shoulder of the Garden State Parkway was struck and killed by a vehicle near mile marker 115.9, authorities said.
John Carroll, 60, was parked on the right shoulder of the southbound lanes near Holmdel Township at approximately 10 p.m. on Sept. 18 when a vehicle entered the shoulder, according to New Jersey State Police.
The vehicle struck both the parked car and Carroll, who was pronounced dead a short while after.

The driver of the other vehicle was revealed to be 41-year-old Pedro A. Carlo of Woodbridge. He was not injured in the collision, authorities said. It was not immediately clear if Carroll had been driving the car or why the vehicle was stopped.
An investigation is ongoing.
