A 54-year-old man was struck and killed on a New Jersey highway this weekend, police said.

A 54-year-old man was struck and killed on a New Jersey highway this weekend, police said.
The man, who was not identified, was walking along Route 36 in Hazlet on Monday when he was struck, authorities said.
The man was crossing near the intersection of Route 36 and Middle Road at about 2:23 a.m. when he was struck, Lt. Robert Mulligan told nj.com.

The driver, a 53-year-old man from Yonkers, NY, stopped to help the victim and has not been charged, according to nj.com.
Route 36 was closed in the area for several hours after the crash, according to transportation officials.
