Matawan Woman Hides Drugs in Underwear, Tries to Flush Them, Police Say

She tried to flush them down the toilet in a jail cell at Holmdel police headquarters, police said.

Holmdel, NJ - Two Keansburg woman and one from Matawan were arrested in Holmdel last week after police said they were found with heroin and amphetamine pills, some of which the Matawan woman hid in her underwear and then tried to flush down the toilet, police said.

Julee Apfel, 39, and Paulean Stone, 47, both of Keansburg, and Melissa Hopf, 40, of Matawan, were arrested Monday, Oct. 3 in Holmdel. Holmdel police said they had nine unopened bags of heroin between them, labeled "Brick City," as well as 11 amphetamine pills and six fragmented alprazolam pills (the generic for the anti-anxiety drug Xanax). Hopf, specifically, tried to hide several white prescription pills in her underwear and then tried to flush them down the toilet while in cell #3 of Holmdel police headquarters, Holmdel police said. The drugs were recovered and the pills turned out to be Gabapentin, a drug used to treat seizures.

The Keansburg women were held on a $10,000 bond, to be paid in full, but Hopf was held on a $12,500 bond, to be paid in full.
