At 5 a.m. Saturday morning, Holmdel officers were notified by the Colts Necks Police Department that a black BMW SUV had been stolen from Freehold Township and the occupants had just attempted to break into a home in Colts Neck near the Highway 34 border.
Holmdel officers began checking that area when the department received a call from a township resident that a vehicle matching that description was seen on Chardonnay Drive.

While officers searched that area, Holmdel received a call from the Middletown Police Department that the same vehicle had passed their officers on West Front Street there driving over 100 mph.
Holmdel officers then saw the BMW on Everett Road heading toward Route 520. As Holmdel officers attempted to get behind the BMW, it fled onto Route 520 where it struck a marked Holmdel police car and continued to flee from the scene.
The officer was injured at the scene and was transported to Bayshore Medical Center for treatment. He has since been released from the hospital.
Holmdel officers continued to pursue the vehicle before deploying a tire deflation device on the BMW, police said. The device disabled three of the four tires, but the drivers of the stolen car continued to drive it to Newark before crashing again and fleeing on foot, where Holmdel officers eventually lost sight of them, police said.
The stolen vehicle was recovered at the scene in Newark and brought to Holmdel Police Headquarters to be processed, police said.
Police are asking if any residents have surveillance footage of that vehicle or footage of suspicious activity, to contact headquarters. They said residents should remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately.
