New Bagel Shop On Holmdel-Hazlet Border Now Open For Business
Bagel Boyz, opened by Holmdel residents Robert and Jessica Ploussas in April, is the latest breakfast joint to open around town.

HOLMDEL, NJ - A brand-new breakfast spot offering bagels, coffee and muffins recently opened its doors to locals on the Holmdel-Hazlet border.
Bagel Boyz on Holmdel Road opened April 22 at the former Holmdel Deli & Groceries site, offering in-house baked bagels, sandwiches, baked goods, refreshments and more.
The location is the brand’s first brick-and-mortar site for owner Robert Ploussas, a Holmdel resident and former civil engineer for the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA), according to the Asbury Park Press. The publication reports that Ploussas has formal experience working in bagel shops, and was emboldened to open his own store after being laid off from his engineering job due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I always wanted to open a bagel shop … as difficult as the last year had been for all of us, I believe that the pandemic offered us opportunities to look at life differently,” Ploussas told the publication.
Polussas, who owns the shop with his wife Jessica, renovated the former grocery store exterior to tout a sleek open-concept store. With floor-to-ceiling windows and extra space for socially-distanced breakfast lines, you can almost smell the fresh bagels from the parking lot.
